2010 Detroit – The Chevy Aveo RS Concept is All About Fun, Power and Economy
The Chevrolet Aveo is generally believed to be a reasonable and affordable choice for car shoppers. However, the Chevrolet Aveo RS is different – with a change in taste, style and price. The Chevrolet Aveo RS is longer, wider and more spacious than the existing Aveo and also offers personalization options for customers. With design choices targeted specifically to the younger generation, Mike Simcoe, executive director of design for Chevrolet says, “You really want to be noticed if you have this one.”
The Aveo RS is aggressively stylish with large vents in the front bumper, 19-inch, 5 spoke alloy wheels with a gun metal metallic-finish Chevy logo, center mounted exhaust pipes with wheel openings in large Boracay Blue brake calipers. The concept boasts of a luxurious interior of an all new instrument pod that comes complete with a digital speedometer and an analogue tachometer besides elegant controls in the middle of the dashboard, leather upholstery, metallic accents and gloss black trim. This could very well go on to become the next generation Aveo hatchback. Except for the signature Chevy twin port grille and the hallmark 3D taillights, the new Aveo RS headlights are a little toned down unlike its other Chevy cousins .
It is powered by a 1.4 L Ecotec 4 cylinder that generated 138 hp with a 6-speed manual transmission and 148 lb-ft of torque. No news on the exact dimensions, pricing or the other performance figures have been revealed yet, but it looks comfortably positioned to challenge and compete with the Ford Fiesta, the Honda Fit and the Nissan Versa in the small car segment. GM was caught saying “competitively priced with competitors like the Yaris and Fit“, which could mean that it falls in the $13,000 – $15,000 range. Production will start early next year at the Orion Township facility in Michigan.
