While the Chicago Auto Show is the talk of the town right now, we still have another big episode of the auto showcase at Geneva on March 2nd. So, while you enjoy the scoops from the Chicago event right now, let me also keep updating you with whats coming up next month.

Set for a Geneva Motor Show debut is Volkswagen’s second-generation Touareg  SUV, which was officially revealed by its German makers. The 2011 Touareg is an all-new beast bringing a whole new range of more fuel efficient engines (upto 20 percent improvement), along with the most superior technology ever used in the VW line-up. The new SUV will be the first and the only off-roader in Europe by a German car maker to be available in a hybrid version.

The exteriors remain quite similar to the previous iteration, but the 2011 Volkswagen Touareg is slightly longer and yet more than 200 kg lighter than its predecessor, while also still boasting of a modest five percent greater torsional rigidity. Also, it now has a lower roofline with new design features that include a new grille, curvier profile lines and distinctive taillights.

The interiors offer luxury at its best with higher quality materials, more comfortable seats and a more spacious leg room in the rear. The other standard features are a radio-CD infotainment system, controlled from a 6.5-inch touch-screen display, multi-directional camera system, 6-disc CD changer, pushbutton park brake controls, stop-start system, nine air bags and the largest panoramic sunroof of all SUVs for light even on overcast days.

Touareg will be launched with two diesel engines and the petrol-electric hybrid system. The diesel options include a 3.0 litre V6 TDI developing 240 HP and 405 lb-ft of torque , and a new 4.2 L V8 TDI churning out  335HP and a massive 590 lb-ft of torque.

The Hybrid Touareg uses a 3.3-liter supercharged V6 TSI producing 333 HP and 265 lb-ft of torque with a 46 HP electric motor with  a combined fuel consumption of 8.2  l/100 km (28.6 mpg) releasing  193 grams of CO2 every kilometer.

The 2011 Volkswagen Touareg will make its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show and will start selling in April. The pricing is expected to be released closer to the launch.
