Lexus has unveiled the all-new 2013 ES lineup at the New York Auto Show. Among the 2013 Lexus ES range included the sixth-generation ES 350 and the all-new ES 300h hybrid. Lexus has turned the ES from a bland mid-size model to a sleek looking sedan. The brand’s latest design language gives it a much crispier and cleaner look. The new model which has been completely redesigned features spindle grille, LED-infused headlights and wraparound taillights. The new ES is based on the platform of the latest Toyota Camry.
The wheelbase of the new ES has been lengthened by 1.8 inches while the overall length of the vehicle has been increased by one inch. The Japanese automaker also promises a spacious interior with knee room increased by 2.8 inches and legroom by 1.4 inches. The new design also provides additional foot room below the front seat. Both the models, that is the ES 350 and the ES 300h have 17-inch alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tires. A distinguishing characteristic of these two models can be found in the exhausts. The ES 350 has a dual exhaust system while the ES 300h features a unique rear fascia with a hidden exhaust. The cabin is equipped with NuLuxe seats, wood trim and metallic accents. It also features an analog clock and a second-generation “Remote Touch Interface” which controls the infotainment system.
The options included in the cabin are leather/semi-aniline leather seats, a Mark Levinson audio system and a blind spot monitor with a rear cross traffic alert. Other notable features is the availability of the next-generation Lexus Enform system, a Display Audio package, a backup camera, HD radio with iTunes tagging, Bluetooth audio and a vehicle information display. The ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-L V6 engine with Dual VVT-I connected to a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. The ES 300h uses a hybridized 2.5-L four-cylinder which should enable it to return a combined fuel economy rating of 40 mpg. The system offers the driver four modes including Normal, Sport, Eco and EV. The 2013 ES will likely go on sale later this year.
