2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI Revealed

Volkswagen has been kind enough to release details of the upcoming 2013 Beetle TDI prior to the car’s launch at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The good news is that the world’s favorite bug will carry the same turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that we are used to seeing in the Jetta TDI and the Passat TDI. According to Volkswagen, the new Beetle should give users about 39 miles per gallon on the highways and 29 miles per gallon during city driving.

Considering the Jetta’s performance with the same engine, the numbers that the company has projected for the 2013 Beetle aren’t that very impressive. The wait is on for the Environmental Protection Agency to release their version of the performance figures. In the meantime, if we were to follow a hunch, we’d guess that the actual production version of the car will crunch out better numbers.

For the record, this upcoming beetle is first diesel version since 2006.  The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle owns figures of 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Buyers will be allowed to opt from choices of either a six-speed manual or dual-clutch gearbox. The new 2013 Beetle is expected to available in markets by mid-2012.
