A Revamped Bentley EXP 9 F Concept Already Underway

After dropping the covers off just a day before the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Bentley managed to create a lot of stir with its new Sport Utility Vehicle concept, the EXP 9 F. A day later, the car posing at the Bentley stand did quite well to reveal the company’s efforts of applying the traditional Bentley styling cues to an SUV shape.  But apparently the car was taken less enthusiastically by the audience, thereby leading Bentley to already consider revamping the design of its concept .

Based on rumors making the rounds across the auto world, it is believed that following the public and customer reaction at the Geneva motor show, a redesigned Bentley EXP 9 F is already under works. As cited by What Car?, the source agreed over EXP 9 F’s styling as “a little heavy handed” and that an alternative design is already being worked out. The source added that the final EXP 9 F would feature “more traditional SUV proportions and less retro surfacing.” While the fog lights would remain intact, it would be placed a little further inward from their present location.

The Bentley EXP 9 F Concept isn’t making it to production any time soon, at least not before 2015 as stated by the officials. That certainly leaves plenty of room for re-sketching and designing. However Bentley is pretty much excited about its new venture and is pinning great hopes aiming to set new benchmarks in the SUV sector.

We are very excited by the potential of a high performance, ultra-luxury Bentley SUV. We know that many Bentley customers already own SUVs, admiring their style, luxury, performance and versatility. With EXP 9 F, Bentley is making a clear statement of intent that we have both the expertise and desire to meet and exceed their expectations,” said Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors.

As a refresher, the Bentley EXP 9 F Concept will carry under its hood a slightly modified 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12. Coupled to an 8-speed transmission, the engine would be able to develop 600bhp and 800 Nm of torque. However, Bentley is also considering other powertrain options that include a 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 or a hybrid drivetrain.
