Audi Reveals 2012 Audi S8, S7 and S6 Sedan & Avant Prior to Frankfurt

With the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show still a couple of weeks away, automakers are busy trying to display their best wares in an effort to generate enough interest prior to the show that begins on September 13. Audi has hence presented us with a preview of its new S model vehicles – the Audi S6, S7 and the gorgeous new S8 ahead of the Frankfurt Auto Show. Audi employs a new “cylinder on demand” system that allows the engine to deactivate four of its eight cylinders when not deemed necessary in an effort to improve on fuel efficiency

The Audi S8 will lead the S model series from the front, with its new twin-turbo V-8 TFSI engine that can generate up to 520 hp and 650 Nm of torque. This beast can sprint from naught to 62 mph in as little as 4.2 seconds, while attaining top speeds that are electronically limited at 155 mph. Meanwhile, in spite of these impressive performance stats, the Audi S8 comes out with impressive fuel efficiency numbers of up to 23 mpg on the highway. That is a 23 percent improvement on the previous generation S8 that came equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 engine.

The Audi S7, meanwhile will come with a similar 4.0 TFSI engine that we see on the Audi S8, however will pack nearly 100 hp less than the Audi S8 at 420 hp and 550 Nm of torque. The vehicle can accelerate to 62 mph in a longer, yet impressive 4.9 seconds, with its top speed limited to 155 mph (just like in the S8). The Audi S7 employs the “cylinder on demand” technology to attain fuel efficiency numbers of a combined 24.25 mpg.

The smallest sibling of the series, the Audi S6 Sedan and Avant uses the same 4.0 TFSI engine that we see on the Audi S7, with the same horsepower and torque numbers. It displays impressive performance numbers in its sprint from naught to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds on the sedan version, and in 4.9 seconds on the Avant version. The S6 Sedan can attain fuel efficiency numbers of 24.25 mpg, while the Audi S6 Avant attains 24.0 mpg.

All the models come packed with a suite of features that range from Xenon plus headlights, LED rear lights, colored driver information system and an electromechanical parking brake. Also include are a list of high-end options like the LED headlights, adaptive lighting, ambient lighting, reverse parking system with 360-degree camera, climate controlled dual seats with massaging capabilities. State of the art technologies like the Audi Pre Sense safety system, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, active lane assist, audi side assist, and night vision assistant are also available on all models.
