Audi has released a teaser sketch of the Spyder variant of the Urban Concept. The Urban Concept “sportback variant” was teased last week and is scheduled for a debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show. This concept will now be accompanied by its sibling at Frankfurt, a Spyder variant.

The major difference between the two models is probably in the windshield and also in the retracting side-door windows. Apart from this, almost everything in the Spyder variant is kept the same as the hardtop Urban Concept, including the 1+1 seating arrangement, carbon fiber construction and electric drive system.

The Audi Urban Concept is powered by two e-tron electric motors. The energy is supplied by a lithium-ion battery. The carbon fiber-reinforced polymer cockpit integrates the undercarriage of both seats and the car sits on 21 inch wheels. Except for the traditional black as tire color instead of white in the Spyder variant, the exterior is similar to the Urban Concept hardtop model.

The Spyder variant is characterized by low, continuous window area and its doors opening diagonally to the top. The height of the steering wheel and the pedals can be adjusted according to the driver’s own body dimensions. This ultra-lightweight car is designed for congested urban areas.

Whether this bold design from Audi will actually go into production or not is unclear yet. Although this concept may not enter the production stage, it may still preview a green and efficient model from the automaker. More details regarding future of this concept will be available at the Frankfurt debut.
