Mazda to Debut 2011 Mazda5 Minivan at Geneva Motor Show

The 2010 Mazda5 small minivan was called a “sensibly sized wagon”, but could not compete greatly with its competitors like the Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna owing to its smaller size. But Mazda is now all ready to launch its new and redesigned 2011 Mazda5 at the Geneva Motor Show in March and has provided us a sneak peak by releasing its first official photos.

Totally redesigned for 2011, the Mazda 5 is the first vehicle to fully feature the big happy face Nagare design which is the Japanese word for “flow“, similar to what we had seen on the Mazda3. The European version of the new minivan comes fully clad with a 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engine, that is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The U.S variant will offer a 1.8-liter gasoline variant, along with a six-speed manual transmission. Also Mazda’s “i-stop” start/stop system will cut CO2 emissions by roughly 15 percent as compared to its predecessor.

Commenting on the development concept, Hideki Matsuoka, the Mazda5 program manager, said, “The all-new Mazda5 meets the many needs of today’s customers. In a single model, we offer the competitive eco-performance necessary to address current market trends together with our distinctive, emotional design. “

The updated Mazda5 has excellent aerodynamics and offers dual sliding rear doors and multiple seat arrangements. While more could only be said after the minivan gets on the road, it is currently rumored that the Mazda5 will provide a “fantastic comfort with a linear and smooth ride that responds precisely as the driver intends.

U.S. sales could start as early as this fall (might be delayed into 2011).
