Redesigned 2013 Mercedes GL-Class Coming to 2012 New York Auto Show

While the 2012 Geneva Motor Show concluded just over a few weeks ago, the automakers have already begun to divulge their plans for the upcoming 2012 New York Auto Show. The German automotive giant Mercedes Benz has announced that it is bringing its redesigned GL-Class to the auto salon.

The car, as we know it, is based on the refurbished M-Class and thus will be seen featuring a two-bar grille and LED-infused headlights. There are no additional details about this new car, although rumor mills indicate that a 255 hp 3.0-liter V6 diesel and a 402 hp 4.7-liter V8 petrol will be a part of the powertrain options offered for the 2013 Mercedes GL-Class. Furthermore, the AMG variant may carry under its hood a powerful 518 hp twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8.

Expect more details to arrive at the New York Auto Show that kicks off on April 4th.

Meanwhile it is also being reported that the company will not be bringing the Mercedes R-Class in the U.S. for model year 2013. As confirmed by InsideLine, Mercedes will continue to offer the R-Class in Canada and Mexico even after it is discontinued in the U.S. The company believes that while the customer trend in the U.S. has been more toward GL’s, ML’s and GLK’s, the R-Class has lost its market.
