A couple of weeks after its debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, Saab’s new PhoeniX concept appeared at the 2011 New York Auto Show. Spyker, who currently owns Saab, said that the new concept will establish a new reference point for the future of Saab product design.

Under the hood, the vehicle will feature a 1.6L turbocharged engine that has an electric motor on the rear axle. The combined power generated by the vehicle is 200-hp. The Saab PhoeniX also features a stop-start and fuel cut-off system apart from the sporty good looks.

The Saab PhoeniX concept that uses an aero-motional design inspired by Saab’s aviation roots and draws expression from Ursaab has a combined fuel economy of 5.0 l/100 km with CO2 emissions at 119 g/km.

The company added that the electric motor mounted on the rear axle is part of Saab’s new eXWD system that generates around 34 hp. The company has also included regenerative braking to keep the battery charged when rolling.
