BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept Set for Production
BMW has been working hard on its product development strategy and has been trying to provide an enhanced driving experience along with a reduction of emissions and fuel consumption in its cars. Running on the same line, it bought the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept to the Frankfurt Auto Show last year and now it has been reported that BMW is working on a production version of its plug-in hybrid soon to ship to the showrooms.
For a quick recap of its specs, it carries a lighter-weight, 163-hp 1.5L three-cylinder diesel engine and two electric motors that together deliver 356-horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The performance of the four-door, plug-in hybrid is not shy at all as the car can gush to a top speed limited electronically to 155mph with 0-60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, but a slight improvement in these figures can be expected come production. The impressive fuel-economy of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept is estimated at 63 mpg.
The highly conceptual design of this 2+2 seater hybrid will turn to a production-ready car for 2013. The pricing still under cover, BMW is believed to be debating over the total units to be manufactured but is expected to fall between 5,000 and 10,000 units. BMW sees this car as a successor to its M1. The car may also ship in with a new name according to some sources, however we will have to wait until 2013 to watch it heat the tracks.
