Malaysian firm Proton and Italdesign Giugiaro are together bringing a concept car to the Geneva Motor Show next month, thus introducing a family of low environmental impact models.

Based on a hybrid drive system, the Proton Hybrid Concept is an extremely efficient five door, hatchback concept that can accommodate five passengers. It s about 3.5 meters long and has a high roof to increase the cabin space yet shorter than Proton Savvy.

“This is the outcome of several years of study: the solution allows interior spaciousness on a par with that of a segment D saloon despite maintaining the exterior dimensions of a segment A car,” said Italdesign Giugiaro boss Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Proton, being the parent company of Lotus may also be expected to provide some Lotus-developed techno-bits to its new compact concept car. No technical details have yet been stated by the company; however the hybrid system will have lithium ion batteries and a fully electric drive like the other hybrids. The platform has a raised floor pan that accommodates the engine at the front and batteries at the rear.

The  Malaysian automobile manufacturer Proton seems to have high hopes pinned to its new hybrid as they expect the car to revolutionize traditional segmentation in the car market and pointed to the hard efforts in defining the vehicle’s ergonomics.

Well, the looks are certainly not groundbreaking, and since we do not know what is under the hood, we cannot comment much on the new concept. Let’s wait until March 2^nd to wrap off the powertrain and other details.
