Gordon Murray Officially Unveils the T25 City Car
Gordon Murray, the designer of the very famous McLaren F1 has officially unveiled its electric city car, the Murray T25. The tiny three-seater made its public debut at Oxford University as part of the Smith School’s World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment validating a low-carbon approach to transportation.
The T.25 according to its proud maker represents a major breakthrough in city car design in the areas of weight, footprint, safety, usability and efficiency. And why not? Weighing just 1,212-pounds and measuring over four feet wide, less than eight feet long, the T.25 can be forward parked in spaces, and that three T25s would fit in the space traditionally occupied by one parallel parked car. It has a turning circle of six metres.
If you could ignore the slightly hideous design of this tiny, great-to-drive economy car, the T25 is powered by a 51 horsepower, in-line three-cylinder engine mounted in the rear that delivers 42 lb-ft of torque, linked to a five-speed clutchless transmission. The engine propels the T25 to 62 mph in 16.2 seconds while achieving 61.9 miles per gallon.
Amongst the other features are anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control and an airbag, plus front and rear crush structures. The compact car makes enough space for your luggage with foldable seats thus creating a capacity of between 160 litres and 720 litres.
