Recently Kia, the South Korean automaker announced its plans to launch a rear-wheel-drive flagship to the market, marking its first venture of the large luxury sedan segment. The new sedan makes another appearance for the camera after it revealed its official images a week before. Two new videos of the Korean firm’s promising new flagship sedan filmed on the road. Initially named as KH, the sedan will now be called K9 when it goes on sale in its home country during the first half of the year. The new car is expected to launch in the first half of 2012. Kia’s first rear-wheel drive sedan, the K9 as its name denotes is the big car that niches above the K5 (Optima) and K7, or Cadenza in export markets. Initially known as KH, Kia later changed the name to K9 exclusively for Korean market.
The brand new K9 sedan’s design concept is termed“high-tech luxury sedan” and the firm demonstrates the front end of the car as “imposing and characterful”. The new car looks like BMW and the front grille slats may be a touch heavy for some customers, but it does lend the car presence. Some argues about its design similarity with BMW while some others find the rear end of the new sedan reminds that of the Hyundai Grandeur. However, the new sedan most likely shares its platform and engine range with the Hyundai Genesis, which means the car, could offer the same 3.8-liter V6, and 4.6-liter and 5.0-liter V8 units that the Hyundai Genesis provides.
Even though, the images and videos launches, Kia continues to have a tight hold on most information regarding the new K9 and the car world is eagerly waiting to know when and in which other markets outside its home country the company plans to offer its first ever rear-wheel drive sedan.
