Rolls-Royce Develops a Performance Coupe Based on Ghost
According to the latest reports, Rolls-Royce has been developing a performance coupe exclusively based on the Ghost. Sources say that the automaker is working on the final developments on a new Ghost-based coupe, which would be the first performance model to carry the Rolls-Royce badge, that is designed to compete with its major rivals like the Bentley Continental GT and some models in the Aston Martin lineup.
Moving to the powertrain, the coupe is expected to be powered by a tuned version of the same 6.2 liter turbocharged V12 engine used in the Ghost sedan. The engine would in turn deliver around 600-hp and will be mated to a rear-wheel-drive architecture, and a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. Besides, the model is expected to post impressive times on accelerating from 0 to 62 mph, along with a top speed of 155 mph.
Despite this information, Rolls Royce remains silence regarding the name of the new model. However, potential names being thrown around include Corniche and Camaruge along with Dawn, Wraith, Cloud, Shadow and Spirit. Regardless of the name, as it is a product from Rolls-Royce, we can expect nothing short of an awesome performance coupe. If all goes well, the Rolls-Royce Coupe will debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will go into production later that summer.
