Tokyo 2009 – Honda Display’s 2011 Honda CR-Z
Honda Motor Co Ltd revealed one of the much anticipated new releases at the Tokyo Motor Show, a near, production version of the 2011 Honda CR-Z. The hybrid hatchback was first unveiled in a concept form at the 2007 Tokyo Motor show. The car then received the distinction of being the worlds first hybrid sports car. The new concept car gets the 2009 tag, and it looks to be near production model with the production version due next year.
We expect this to be a concept in name only and don’t expect many alterations for the upcoming production version. The car is expected to reach the North American market also by the second half of 2010 following the launch of Honda Insight. The official, world debut of the Honda CR-Z will be at the 2010 Detroit auto show in the coming January. The CR-Z is considered to be the successor of the second generation Honda CR-X in both its exterior styling and its name.
The car gets powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine couple with Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist technology (IMA). The engine matched to an electric motor will produce a combined power of about 140 hp. The car will also feature a six-speed manual gearbox that proves to be a more entertaining partner than the CVT used in the Insight hatchback. The exterior is not expected to get any modification for the production version. The car has eye-catching and attractive wedge-shaped lines that remind us of the seminal CRX from the early 1980s, with a touch of the current Honda Insight. The Honda CR-Z is will cost about €25,000 and be mainly targeted for the European market. Honda has also revealed that car gets a designed influenced by the European style.
