E-Bugster Steedster Concept Car by Volkswagen Unveiled
Auto China in Beijing will showcase the E-Bugster concept car by Volkswagen for the first time. The company unveiled the first images and details of the E-Bugster today. It is an updated roofless version of the model that was exhibited in Detroit earlier this year.
The E-Bugster concept car is 90mm lower and 30mm longer than the production Beetle coupe which gives it a sporty outlook. It is from Beetle’s American nickname, ”Bug“, that the name Bugster is taken. The design upholds the Beetle DNA and arrives with LED headlights. Additionally, the C-shape at either side of the central air intake accentuates a line of LED daytime running lights as well.
An electric motor generates power that produces 116PS (85kW / 114hp) empowering the speedster to accelerate from 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 10.8 seconds. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 28.3 kWh, and can be recharged by standard or an ultra-fast DC charging mechanism. It also utilizes a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) similar to the F1 system to recharge.
The E-Bugster Concept is considered to be a pre-production preview of Beetle Convertible which is expected to be shown in production form in either Paris or Los Angeles later this year, before sales begin early in 2013.
