Ford to Preview 2015 F-150 Concept at the Detroit Auto Show
To counter-attack the recently released 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, Ford is getting ready with the 2015 Ford F-150. The preview of which will be seen at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show next month, which is very much before its planned fall 2014 launch. The current generation F-150 is on sale ever since 2009 and received an updated version with new engines and a new look in 2011. As far as the competition goes, the F-150 has quite a disadvantage in front of its Silverado competitor as it is scheduled to go on sale in the second quarter of 2013 and F-150 will arrive only in fall 2014.
It is still unknown as to how much of the 2015 F-150 will be shown at Detroit. Chances are high that a “concept” similar to the recent Honda Civic Concept and Honda Accord Coupe Concept, which were fundamentally the production models but with some conceptual bits attached. The 2015 F-150 will apparently be about 750 lbs lighter than the current generation, thanks to lightweight chassis components and aluminum bodywork. Apart from that Ford has promised a fuel economy improved by 15 to 20%.
The possibilities are also high that the truck could also be presented with a next-generation engine which is allegedly being developed under the “Nano” codename. As per the rumors, the F-150 will be powered with a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 which will be paired to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The new F-150 is supposed to be a crucial product launch for Ford as it is a main profit driver for the company. Reportedly, F-Series and the truck-based Expedition SUV generate 90 percent of Ford’s global profits.
