Offering track car builders the least expensive version of race cars available is the logic behind the long-awaited Toyota GT 86 RC a model currently available only in Japan. To make things affordable the car comes with steel wheels, unpainted bumpers and an interior with missing components like the audio system, air conditioning and glove box.
Compared to other models offered by the Toyota/Scion franchise the GT 86 is more ideally suited to motorsport events like drifting, autocross, time attack and club racing. Subaru is also building an equivalent model exclusively for the Japanese market called the BRZ RA and this version will sell for about $1,300 more than the Toyota GT 86 RC but will include painted bumpers and a few more amenities. It is possible that a US version will be introduced. Both the Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ will start at a lower price point in the U.S than in other countries.
