More than two decades after the release of the Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd starrer ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy, fans of the series were finally given a chance to own a piece of ‘Back to the Future’ nostalgia. A few days after Nike announced that it would be selling replicas of the futuristic ‘Nike Mag’ shoes from the second movie, news surfaced that one of the original DMC-12 time machine prop cars was up for sale. The DeLorean time machine is a fictional automobile-based time travel device featured in the series and of the seven examples built with their various modifications made by “Doc”, only three remain in existence, according to auctioneer Profiles in History.
This particular car was used mostly in the third movie during which most of its suspension was replaced and a full roll-cage and Volkswagen V-6 engine were installed. The car has been under private ownership for the past eight years with its owner restoring it to its current state. Sometime this month the car fetched a whooping $541,200 with part of the proceeds going to support The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the world’s largest private funder of Parkinson’s research.
