Many cars were auctioned off for charity at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, but clearly, the one that takes the cake is the new 2011 Ford Mustang GT. The Ford introduced their new 2011 Mustang a few weeks ago in Detroit, and last week it was selected as the official pace car of this year Daytona 500 (Read the story here). Ford also announced that they will be building 50 replicas of the car, but the actual pace car has been auctioned off for charity at the Barrett-Jackson vehicle auction. All proceeds from the auction are to be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Well the Mustang’s race against childhood diabetes has ended exceptionally well, with the car finishing off as the most expensive car of the auction so far. At a final price of $330,000, one lucky bidder has got his hands on the first modern 5.0 Mustang available today. The same vehicle will be leading the ‘The Great American Race‘ at the Daytona International Speedway on February 14. It is a first for the Mustang and a comeback for Ford after a long break of 40 years.

Apart from this, there are quite a few brisk incentives that come with the Mustang. Veteran NASCAR driver Carl Edwards and Exec. VP, FoMoCo. Mark Fields were both on stage with the Mustang, and together, they have announced that the buyer would take a trip to the 2010 Daytona 500 to watch the Mustang pace the field. The buyer will also perform a lap of the track in the passenger seat with Carl Edwards and a tour of the pits. To finish off, he will enjoy VIP access to Ford’s hospitality center. Pretty sweet.., huh? Ford has also offered its exclusive Sky Box at Barrett-Jackson to local JDRF families. Check out more pictures of the Mustang GT at the auction after the jump.
