2012 Ford F-150 Gets Powertrain Upgrades and New Visuals

For the 2012 model year, the Ford F-150 has been equipped with more capabilities and technologies. A new FX Appearance package is also being offered for the new model year.

The new FX appearance package is available on both the FX4 and FX2 trucks and will incorporate unique stealthy flat black-accents to the trucks. This package includes 20-inch six-spoke wheels covered in a flat-black paint, body-sized matt black decals, chrome exhaust tip, black-finished grille, blacked-out headlamps and tail lamps, and red colored badging for the exterior. In the interior, this package adds black leather seating surfaces with red perforations and red piping, red stitching on the steering wheel and satin-metallic finish in several of the interior components. There is also a FX luxury package, which now fits the pickup with cooled front seats combined with the previously available heated front seats.

The powertrain upgrade includes a new a two-speed automatic 4×4 system for the Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trim levels, which now offers a 4×4 auto mode along with four high and four low modes. One important feature incorporated in the 2012 model year is the Hill-start assist, which ensures smooth and safe driving on slopes. Also, all 4X4 trucks are fitted with neutral tow capability for the 2012 model year, which will allow customers to flat-tow their vehicle.

In the 2012 model year, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 5.0-liter engines are available with an electronic locking rear axle. The entire F-150 lineup is fitted with fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmissions as standard. Also, the capacity of the fuel tank of the 2012 F-150 EcoBoost 4X4 has been increased to 36 gallons, thus extending the range to 576 miles.
