2013 Nissan GT-R Hybrid To Use Infiniti Essence’s Electric Powertrain
Rumors about a new model from Nissan have been circulating for some days. As the dust surrounding this Nissan GT-R Hybrid variant is beginning to settle, there is another buzz in the making. The drive train to feature in the car would be the current 3.8-litre twin turbocharged V6 plus the battery powered electric powertrain showcased in the Infiniti Essence Concept.

The report has come from the trusted sources of the Inside Line which also comments on the launch of the hybrid variant will be in 2012 as a 2013 model. If we go into the details of the drivetrain, the VR38DETT 3.8 liter twin turbo V6 petrol unit will produce a power of 440-hp (de-tuned from current GT-R’s 485hp). That when combined with the extra 160 horsepower of the electric motor, the net power figure mounts up to 600hp, which is a cool 100hp more than the current GT-R.
The battery pack and the electric engine would certainly add a lot of extra weight to the GT-R Hybrid. To compensate these extra pounds brought on by the green technologies, the next-gen GT-R will have to get a lot lighter. However, with any stringent measures it should still be heavier than the current generation GTR at 1,724kg (3,800 lbs).
Nothing much is revealed about its design cues. The next-gen Nissan GT-R Hybrid was displayed earlier this year in Geneva. Like the hybrid power-train, the styling of the super car is expected to be inspired from the luxury Infiniti Essence concept. The fuel consumption of the hybrid GTR is expected to be somewhere between the 25 -30 mpg mark. Also, the emission rates of this Hybrid are expected to be very low. The pricing of the 2013 Nissan GT-R Hybrid is rumored to be around $100,000.
