All U.S Hyundai Models to Get Brake Pedal Electronic Throttle Override
The Japanese automakers, Hyundai confirm that a brake override system will be standard equipment on all of its vehicles starting this month. Hyundai continues providing critical safety technologies to its customers much before the mandates of the Government come into effect now offering brake pedal electronic throttle override capability. The mandate has been under consideration by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration since April 16, 2012. All of Hyundai’s models in the May production will have the additional safeguard of brake pedal throttle override capability.
Malfunctioning of the electronic throttle is a possibility, thus causing the vehicle to accelerate on its own. The advanced safety feature will ensure that vehicles incorporated with the electronic throttle do not have instances of unintentional acceleration. Hyundai’s implementation of the brake pedal throttle was way ahead even before the Government’s mandate was approved. The development teams of the company have been less concerned about final Government mandate timing and have focused completely on the immediate safety and assurance of the customers.
“With Hyundai’s brake pedal throttle override capability, any brake pedal input by the driver, even with a runaway throttle condition, completely overrides any throttle malfunction,” said Robert Babcock, director of certification and compliance affairs for Hyundai’s technical center. “It is no longer possible to have increasing engine power once the brake pedal is depressed by the driver. This adds a reassuring, incremental safeguard of control for Hyundai drivers.” Beginning with May production, 100 percent of all U.S Hyundai models now provide the assuring safeguard of brake pedal throttle override capability.
