High Performance BMW 1-Series Caught Undergoing Testing

The BMW 1-series has been a resounding success, with over a million units being built within the first five years of production. Hence it should come as no surprise that the company is testing a supposedly high-performance variant of the 1-series, currently dubbed the ‘M1‘.

Auto Motor und Sport reports that the ‘M1′ will most likely be called by another name (likely Tii) when it is officially revealed (The word from BMW is ‘mum’ right now). The ‘M1′ will probably be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that generates upto 326 hp and 450 Nm of torque, and comes coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Compare this with the 302 hp and 400 Nm of torque that the current generation of 135i generates.

Check out the video of the 1-series undergoing testing at the Nurburgring circuit.
