Smartphones have become hot selling devices in the market today with auto manufacturers churning out ways to satisfy their tech savvy customers. Joining the league is Chrysler with its very first smartphone application that details information about its vehicles.

Developed by Tweddle Group, the application which is offered first on the iPhone and Blackberry and Android soon after, will be used by the owners of Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram or Fiat vehicles. The first version of this app will currently be available for the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, launching June 20th with the rest to follow by the end of this year.

The free application will work like an interactive owner’s manual where users will be able to download operating instructions and warning lights, maintenance schedules, and warranties. Apart from this they will be able to view product feature demonstration videos, direct connections to Chrysler social media sites, branded accessories and Mopar performance parts and connections to 24-hour roadside assistance and customer support.

“We will be the first in the industry to introduce free, downloadable vehicle owner-information apps for smartphones,” said Pietro Gorlier, head of Mopar. He added that the vehicle-information app would level up the customer care by offering convenient and on-demand channel of communication.

At launch, the app will be available in English for only the U.S. market, Gorlier said. “However, other markets are currently under consideration.” A version for Canada is also being developed.
