Detroit Electric to Build SP:01 in Holland

The start-up car maker, Detroit Electric, who was in news for quite some time has unveiled its plans to build its limited edition SP:01 car in Holland. Earlier the automaker had said the car will be manufactured in the Detroit facility.

According to the previous plan of the company, Detroit Electric was to begin manufacturing the SP:01 at an unidentified facility in Plymouth by the end of last summer. The company said the plant would have an annual capacity of 2,500 cars, and would employ more than 100 workers.

According to Autoblog and The Detroit News, the production of Detroit Electric vehicles in Europe, along with Detroit, was always part of the plan.

The SP:01 was unveiled by the automaker as a two-seat pure-electric sports car that sets new standards for performance and handling in the electric vehicle segment. The vehicle will feature a compact, mid-mounted 201 bhp electric motor that can deliver a torque of 166 lb-ft. The vehicle can sprint from 0 to 62mph in a blistering 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.
