Social networking sites like Facebook do come in handy when it comes to getting sneak peeks of upcoming vehicles. The latest offering is the 2012 Toyota Yaris via the company’s Hungary Facebook Page.

“New Yaris represents Toyota’s strongest offer yet in the important supermini segment.” said Toyota Motor Europe President and CEO Didier Leroy.

The 2012 Toyota Yaris is expected to make its debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Meanwhile, spy shots of the prototype of a three door 2012 Yaris emerged in April. Known as Toyota Vitz in Japan, the latest version was unveiled in December 2010 in the domestic market.

Earlier, it was reported that the forthcoming Yaris will come in both three- and five-door variants followed by a sedan version. Also, on Toyota’s cards is a hybrid variant that was previewed as the Yaris HSD concept car at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Powertrains of the third-generation Toyota Yaris will include 1.0 liter VVT-i and 1.3 liter dual VVT-i petrol units as well as a 1.4 liter D-4D diesel. Features like engine stop-start technology, direct injection technology and a continuously variable transmission with paddle-shifters are expected to contribute to fuel economy.

Described as “Compact outside, spacious inside,” the new Yaris appears to have a sportier design. The wheelbase has increased by at least two more inches with four more inches in overall length. Accordingly, the cabin space will be bigger particularly in the rear. The interior gets a 6.1-inch display and has affordable multimedia connectivity with the introduction of Toyota Touch and Go.

The 2012 Toyota Yaris is expected to hit U.S. roads towards the end of 2011. The next generation Yaris will likely grace UK shores in September 2011 with a summer 2011 debut anticipated for Europe.

Meanwhile, Toyota is yet to divulge further details regarding specs and pricing.
