First Look – 2010 Mustang Shelby GT500 Supersnake
Ford and Shelby autos have teamed up again to launch a new, limited edition of performance upgrades for the Shelby GT500 mustang. The package, named ‘Super Snake” is expected to be the ultimate Mustang ever produced. The Super Snake package is available with the 2010 GT500 for an additional 33,000 dollars that include the cost of fitting.
The package adds an optional Shelby/Kenne Bell supercharger kit or a less lethal Ford Racing supercharger kit. The package also includes six-speed manual gearbox with short-throw shifter having a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio and Borla exhaust unit. It also gets a Ford Racing Handling package that includes adjustable dampers, lowered springs, six-piston Shelby/Baer brake and tuned stabilizer bars. The visual changes include a new fiberglass hood and various Super Snake badges and striping. The car also gets a custom Alcoa 20-inch wheels.
Dry runs of the Super Snake revealed it had 635 horsepower reaching the wheels. Even though the official power output figures are not yet out, it would be safe to assume the power at the crankshaft to be near 760 horsepower. The massive power can easily over come the grip provided by the ultra sticky PZeros tires even in the third gear. It is extremely hard to cover all the ponies to a staggering acceleration time without roasting the tires. The car struggles to manage the extra ponies that the Super Snake comes with, resulting in a slower 0 to 60 mph time than the base GT500. Handling also struggles as it is hard to rein all that ponies on a skid pad. The upgraded brakes provide enough stopping power to slow down the car at an eye popping rate, bringing this 4000 pound car to rest from 60 mph in just 114 feet.

Even though it has all the performance and handling upgrades that it has, the Super Snake is surprisingly comfortable for something this powerful. Even with the 10 inch wide rear wheels upgraded dampers, the rides exceedingly well. It fells like something one car cruise around the whole day. Everything is extremely livable as the cars traction control is enabled.
The cars interiors are both stylish and comfortable. The short throw, cue ball covered gear shifter looks especially nice. The Super Sanke has a loud exhaust system that will remind the occupants that what they are in is something momentous. The car’s exterior, on the other hand, shouts loud that this is the ultimate version. The huge vents on the massive bonnet, Carbon fiber front splitter and the blocked out rear quarter-glass provide enough indications to onlookers that what they are looking at is the Super Snake.
To sum it all up, the Super Snake package transforms the GT500 Mustang in to something massively powerful, mad and exciting. The car oozes with street presence, yet manages to be comfortable too.
