Ford Announces Five RS Le Mans Classic Editions
Ford Motor Co. is celebrating the company’s history at the Le Mans 24 Hour race with five special edition Ford Focus RSs. Known as the Ford Focus RS Le Mans Classic special edition , the cars mark the automaker’s success in the 1960s and 1970s at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Focus RS in black with white stripes and gold rims echoes the 1966 GT40 Mk II. The red one with white strips marks the 1967 Mark IV. The white colored Focus RS with blue centre stripe surrounded by a red border was used on the Mk IIB France special edition in the 1967 race. Next is the two-tone sky blue and orange car which is a replica of the dominant GT40s of 1968 and 1969. Last but not the least two the tone white and blue Focus RS that mimics the Capri RS 2600 which took the Touring category in 1972.
All five limited-edition Focus RS Le Mans Classic editions will get custom interiors that include leather Recaro seats with diamond-quilted alcantara, with stitching that matches the exterior. Also added is a gearshift gaiter, hand brake handle and central arm-rest upholstered in leather. A leather safety belt guide has been added to the front seats plus a personalized numbered plate has been provided.
For a quick refresher, the Ford Focus RS hides under its hood a 2.5-L 5-cylinder Duratec engine that delivers 300-hp of power and a peak torque of 324 lb-ft.
The special edition cars will race at the 2010 Le Mans Classic in July before being put on sale where it will be offered with exclusive accessories including a Le Mans Classic watch of which only 600 are to be produced.
