Ford Creates Facebook Page that Takes People on Virtual Trip in the Ford Electric

Ford has created a Facebook application that allows people to take a virtual trip in the Ford Electric. This new social media product by Ford is the “Plug N Play in Electric City with 2012 Focus Electric”. This Facebook-based game has been released ahead of the official release of the Focus Electric EV. With this new game it gives Facebook users the chance to take a road trip in the all-new Focus Electric car before its availability in the market and without even having to step away from the computers.

The new Facebook app gives the user and four of his friends the opportunity to take a short trip in a virtual version of the car using Mapquest which maps data to calculate the approximate distance between different destinations to charging stations along the way. The virtual trip provides a glimpse into the technologies and features of Focus Electric which has been rated as America’s most fuel-efficient five-seat passenger vehicle. “This is a great way for consumers to both have fun and learn about the new Focus Electric at the same time,” said Chad D’Arcy, Focus Electric marketing manager. “We want to offer people the opportunity to experience the car now, especially those on Facebook who have supported us for so long.

Ford is building on social media innovations to target people who would be interested in owning the Focus Electric and also provides an educational foundation to learn about the latest technologies found in the Focus Electric. This new model receives an EPA rating of 110 mpg in the city, 99 mpg in the highway, resulting in a 105 mpg combined rating. Ford’s Electrified Vehicles Facebook page was developed and launched in late 2010 to help consumers distinguish between electrified vehicle technologies so they can make informed decisions about alternative-fuel vehicles. Now with more than 38,000 subscribers, the page can be found at www.facebook.com/FordElectricVehicles.
