Ford Prepares Explorer based Police Utility Vehicle for U.S.
Back in March when Ford unveiled its new Police Interceptor, the company also promised a second vehicle, which it said would share most of its parts with the Taurus and be available in a utility version. At that time it was expected to be either the Flex or the new Explorer, both of which are based on the same platform as the Taurus. Months after the announcement, the Dearborn maker is keeping its promise as it readies a police utility vehicle based on the same platform as the all-new Ford Explorer.
According to a report from the Detroit News, Ford is preparing another police vehicle for the U.S law enforcement departments. Like its Police Interceptor, Ford’s police SUV will be available with all-wheel drive and will be pursuit-rated.
“When you own 70 percent of the market and you understand your customers, they tell you what their needs are,” said Lisa Teed, brand marketing manager for Ford’s police vehicle program. “They need flexibility, and that’s what this second vehicle brings.”
There hasn’t been any official announcement from the company and hence no details are knwon about the new police spec Ford Explorer so far. But the police department is quite impressed with the Police Interceptor as the car has been designed as per the needs and specifications of the representatives of law, replacing well the aging Crown Victoria. The new Explorer hence is also anticipated with all arms open now.
