General Motors announced that production of the Chevrolet Volt will be halted for over a month, from March 19th to April 23rd. The move will result in nearly 1,300 GM production-line employees being temporarily laid off during the period. Although sales of the Chevrolet Volt had increased during the course of February, GM is reported to still have as many as 6,300 Chevrolet Volt units in its stockpile, which by current estimates should last for over 5 months. In a press brief, GM spokesman, Chris Lee admitted, “We need to maintain the right inventory levels and continue to meet demand”.
