GM Hits Record Sales In China

General Motors along with its joint ventures in China sold the millionth vehicle in the Asian country today. In addition to that, the company has also managed record sales for the month of April – 227,217 vehicles. This has accounted for an enormous 11.7 per cent increase from the past year. In all, this is the sixth time that the company has achieved such a milestone in China.

If this enormous surge in performance were to be taken into account, the dull performance at the beginning of the year is slowly moving into oblivion. At the moment, GM is busy revising its sales targets that had been set for the current year. Another important fact is that in all of its history, this is the earliest in a year that the company has touched the one million mark.

Much of the success can be attributed to Buick sales. The brand sold 54,103 units during the month. On the other hand, Chevrolet and Cadillac lost out in the race. A major chunk of the sales hike was recorded by SAIC-GM-Wuling which leaped by 27 percent on an annual basis to arrive at a figure of 127,362 units for the month of April. At the same time, Shanghai GM recorded a lackluster performance, falling back by 2.2 percent.
