GM Recalls 2010 Cadillac SRX Crossovers Citing Engine Failure Risk

General Motors Co is recalling certain 2010 Cadillac SRX crossovers that are equipped with the turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 engine. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall concerns a fault that may result in an engine failure.

The problem may arise because of using a regular gasoline with lower than the required octane rating that is mentioned in the owner manual or fuel filling door. A pre-ignition may be induced when the consistent use of the regular fuel combines with aggressive driving maneuvers. The pre-ignition would produce a pinging or a knocking sound from the engine.

If the owners continue to drive their 2010 Cadillac SRX crossovers even after having heard this sound, it may result in the breakage of a connecting piston or rod, resulting in engine damage or a complete engine failure. This would thus disable the vehicle finally leading to a crash.

As a remedy, the 547 affected vehicles will get their engine control module reprogrammed free of cost at the dealers. The recall is said to begin on or before June 11, 2010. For any further information, the owners of the affected 2010 Cadillac SRXs may contact the Cadillac Customer Assistance Center at 1-866-982-2339 or log on to owner center at WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.
