GM Still Has Plans for a Lambda-based Cadillac Crossover
Before General Motors went into bankruptcy, it was being said that the company was planning a 7-seat crossover vehicle based on GM’s Lambda platform architecture. However as GM was enveloped by the dark clouds of financial turmoil, the news disappeared in the wind with people soon forgetting about it. However, according to the latest news circulating in the autosphere, a Lambda-based Cadillac crossover seems to be quite close to existence.
In an in interview with InsideLine, Karl Stracke, General Motors’ vice president of global engineering, said that the Lambda platform based Caddy SUV is now “absolutely a go.” This very Lambda platform also underpins GM’s Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossovers.
No further information has been revealed about the Caddy Crossover as to when the model will finally show up or what configurations it will sport. However, according to industry analysts, it is expected to have a front face similar to that of the XTS Concept that was unveiled at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. Also power may be derived from a 3.6-litre direct injected V6 engine but GM may use turbocharging as well. Hope to hear more details in some time.
