Honda to Provide Zipcar with Latest Fuel Saving Cars

Honda announced a partnership with the world’s leading car sharing network Zipcar Inc. Zipcar revealed last week that Honda had become their preferred vehicle manufacturer when related to hybrid and electronic cars. Thus, the Japanese automaker unveiled that they will expand a number of their units available through the car sharing service. Honda sees the deal as a way for urban dwelling tech-savvy drivers to get first hand experience with the new technology. With this partnership, members of the car sharing service will have access to Honda’s technologically advanced and lowest emission vehicles.

The 2013 Zipcar lineup includes the Insight hybrid, all-new CR-V compact SUV, Fit EV battery electric vehicle and Accord Plug-In sedans. “Honda provides the most comprehensive lineup of vehicles that offer improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and enhanced vehicle and pedestrian safety, while producing a consistently high level of product quality and value,” said Steven Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda. “As the car sharing market leader, Zipcar is the best choice for us to showcase our newest energy-efficient transportation technologies, given the strength of their brand, their tech-savvy, conscious and connected members and the geographic reach of their operations.”

The Honda Insight hybrid is a five-passenger car with a sleek and aerodynamically styled appearance. Also it features an improved fuel economy. The Fit EV is based on the Fit Hatchback and will be available this fall as a 2013 model. It is powered by a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 92 kW coaxial electric motor. The Fit EV produces 123 hp and has an estimated driving range of 123 miles on one charge. The 2013 Honda Accord Plug-In is an electric version plug-in of the Accord Sedan. It uses a two-motor hybrid system that moves through three different modes – All electric, gasoline electric and direct drive. In city driving, these modes maximize driving as well as fuel efficiency.
