Hummer Recalls 198,404 2006-2010 Model Year H3s
General Motors has issued a voluntary recall of H3 and H3T models of its Hummer brand. According to the company, the H3′s produced since the 2006 model year may face problems in which a part of the hood may detach from the vehicle while driving.
Hummer spokesman Nick Richards said a device on the hood called a hood louver can come loose and possibly detach while driving. As mentioned in the documents submitted by GM to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the clips that hold the hood louver on some of the vehicles could break, causing the part to break loose and strike a vehicle behind the Hummer in traffic. It is reported that 164,190 , 2006-2010 model year Hummer H3′s and H3T’s in the U.S. will be affected by the recall with 198,404 worldwide. The company has already found a solution to the problem as it says that the application of an adhesive would refasten the louver to the hood.
The recall has been initiated after two complaints on the problem were received from the US and another three from Japan. GM said that Japanese transportation officials had notified the company of the potential problem in January. As for the recall, the company added that the dealers will receive a bulletin outlining the fix this week and Hummer owners will be informed about the recall process the following week in a letter issued to them.
