Jaguar Going Green with XJ Electric in 2011
Jaguar is all set to green the roads with their innovative new sedan brand, the electric Jaguar XJ sometime later this year. Jaguar believes that the only real way electric vehicles can be made compatible with everyday life is to add a small range-extending gas-powered engine that is capable of keeping batteries charged on the go. The hyped-up hybrid sedan is an upshot of an effort to launch an electric range-extended fuel-efficient green car.
In April 2009, European Investment Bank had pumped USD $453 million to Jaguar and Land Rover asking them to progress a project for inducting a new series of green cars that will reduce carbon emission drastically. As the much-awaited first outcome of the project, it is believed, Jaguar is about to land with the fuel-efficient range-extended XJ version of their brand. The new all-green sedan will have an extended range of about 600 miles with a stunning max speed of 112 mph.
Sources say the electric XJ is expected to be capable of at least 30 miles of pure electric driving. The new powerful green electric range-extended Jaguar XJ sedan will be driven by a 194 hp/145 kW electric motor. A high-end lithium-ion battery pack accompanying the electric motor will ensure seamless operation of the XJ. Lotus has uniquely designed the potent battery to support a 1.2L 3-cylinder engine that is expected to deliver a high degree of fuel-economy in the range of 57 mpg with CO2 emissions being as low as 120 g/km.
