Over the weekend, Kia teased the world through a livestream of its 2014 Forte model trapped inside a box at a mall in its home market of South Korea. The Korean finally dropped the box revealing its newly redesigned compact sedan.

The compact sedan known as K3 in Korea will make it to America as the 2014 Kia Forte. It will also be known as Cerato in other international markets. It will go on sale in Korea this fall. In the first quarter of 2013, it will be arriving in North American dealerships as well as in other markets. The coupe and hatchback variants will follow in due time. Kia has not yet revealed plans of selling the new model in Europe as yet.

Not very many details on the updated model were released. Kia just revealed that the new Kia is, “Longer, lower and wider than the current car, with an extended wheelbase, the next generation Forte / Cerato will be manufactured with an all-new bodyshell structure”. Considering the positioning in the market and the styling cues, the K3 is believed to be based on the visually related European market Cee’d, which made its world debut in both five-door hatchback and station wagon forms at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.
