Latest Generation Toyota Prius Launched At Auto Expo 2010

Toyota-Kirloskar Motor lunched the latest generation of the world’s most popular petrol-electric hybrid car Prius at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. In the range of green cars, Toyota Prius will be priced between Rs. 26.5 lakh – Rs. 27.8 lakh ($57,000).

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Deputy Managing Director Sandeep Singh on speaking to the media said “Through the launch of the Prius, Toyota is keen to demonstrate its commitment to offer the latest eco-friendly automotive technology to its customers in India.

The Prius comes with a 1.8L petrol engine, a battery of 60 kilowatt, aerodynamic design of 0.25Cd, audio and bluetooth controls with touch sensor on steering wheel and Hybrid Synergy Drive for outstanding fuel efficiency. The vehicle has three driving modes namely – Power Mode, Eco Mode and EV (Electric Vehicle) Mode.

Toyota also launched two compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, the Altis and the Innova CNG, as  well as the Camry hybrid. According to Singh, Prius would be imported as completely built-up unit from Japan.

The Toyota Prius is the world’s best selling hybrid car , well known for environmentally conscious motoring across the globe. Although the vehicle has a high price tag attached to it, the technology it packs, Toyota’s brand pull and the coolness quotient of owning a Prius in India will help the vehicle pull off well in the sub-continental market.
