Magna Steyr to Assemble Luxury Entry Level Compact Vehicle For Infiniti
Magna Steyr — the contract manufacturer is on a new move as the firm is all set to produce a mystery vehicle for Nissan’s premium brand Infiniti. The company calls this as a future luxury entry level compact vehicle and the production of the vehicle will start in 2014. Even though, the agreement is still in the MOU phase, it seems the vehicle will be a reality as Infiniti is happy with Magna’s work so far. Besides, the words of Andy Palmer — Infiniti Chief, also gives a hint of this new vehicle.
“The new vehicle represents a significant opportunity for the Infiniti brand to reach new consumers and grow in key markets such as Western Europe,” said Palmer.
The officials at Nissan didn’t reveal more details regarding the vehicle as they pointed out the fact that companies are still finalizing the particulars for the production and supply agreements. Magna has been supplying parts and components to Nissan and it includes the soft tops for the Nissan Murano or the Infiniti G37 convertible. Apart from these, Magna has been doing a lot of contract work for Daimler, which has a coalition with Renault/Nissan.
As speculations goes on, it seems the mystery car will be the production version of Infiniti’s Etherea Concept, which first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. During that time, it was rumored that a production Etherea would share into the Mercedes A-Class platform – and that the car would be built by Magna Steyr. Hope this new mystery car would be the one the automaker announced then. Let us wait and see.
