Mazda Expands Production of Special Edition RX-8 SPIRIT R to 1000 More Units

Mazda Motor Corporation is adding 1,000 more units to production, thereby doubling the pace of its limited edition RX-8 Spirit R, due to high demand. Only a 1,000 units of this special edition four-door, four-seat rotary engine sports car was initially meant to be produced. As the sales of the RX-8 SPIRIT R reached a record pace and orders outnumbered production, the Japanese motor company decided to increase the production.

The final special edition models of RX–8 were launched in November of 2011. From rotary engine enthusiasts to sports car fans, everyone placed an order of Mazda during the last five months.

Almost 66% of the orders went for the most popular, 6- speed manual transmission version which features RECARDO bucket seats and 19- inch bronze painted forged aluminum wheels, along with aero parts and Blistein dampers. The new model will be available in three body colors, including Aluminum Metallic, Sparkling Black Mica, and Crystal White Pearl.

The main features of the limited Mazda RX-8 SPIRIT R series include exclusive ornament, Transmission tunnel trim, 225/45R18 91W tires and 18-inch alloy wheels etc.

After commencing production of the RX-8 in 2003, Mazda, by the end of March 2012 had produced 192,094 units.  The company plans to wind up the production of RX-8 by June 2012.
