Mitsubishi Planning to Make Models with Plug-in Hybrid Technology
The President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd., Robert McEniry, has informed reporters that Mitsubishi is going to offer models with hybrid technology as a part of the automakers upcoming plans. The statement was issued at the unveiling of the Mitsubishi Electric Car last Friday.
He also added that the Mitsubishi Pajero and the Mitsubishi Challenger will both be available with plug-in hybrid technology for the next generation models. “The next generation will be plug-in hybrid and will do more and have more capabilities than current models,” he said.
Last year at the Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi displayed a good number of environment friendly cars, including the Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV which employs a plug-in hybrid system.
The Japanese auto manufacturer is fully focusing on the i-MiEV full-electric car at present. The previously seen PX-MiEV concept is an all-wheel drive that is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors in combination with a 1.6-L DOHC MiVEC petrol engine. Along with the Mitsubishi Pajero and Challenger Hybrid, the company has previously hinted at the launch of the Lancer Hybrid, Colt Hybrid and Outlander Hybrid variants in the near future.
The plug-in Hybrid will employ complicated computer technology to calculate the mode (a number of different driving modes are available) for saving fuel in the best manner. When put into power supply mode, the car can also use the battery power to enable domestic appliances.
