Monterey Auction: Steve McQueen’s Porsche 911S Pulls in Record $1.375 M

The Porsche 911S, once owned by actor Steve McQueen and previously used in his movie Le Mans was sold last night for a record setting $1.375 Million. The vehicle was also the 200th vehicle to have been sold for over a million dollars at RM’s Monterey, CA auction. Meanwhile, a 1899 Columbia Electric Landaulet sold for $550,000, thereby setting a record for an electric car that was sold at an auction.

Steve McQueen’s Porsche 911S was built to specification in 1970, and stars in the film’s opening sequence where McQueen’s character, Michael Delaney drives through the French countryside. After filming of the movie, McQueen added the vehicle to his own collection of motor cars in California.

Some of the other impressive bids for over the weekend included a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta that sold for $ 1,485,000, a 1941 Chrysler Thunderbolt Concept car that sold for $935,000 and a 1938 Bugatti Type 57 Stelvio that went for $693,000. In all, nearly 145 different classic vehicles were sold at the two-day auction that concluded on Saturday night.
