Much Awaited Tesla Model X Crossover Unveiled, Coming in 2014

The electric car fans sure have a reason to celebrate as the much awaited CUV from Tesla Motors has finally arrived. The company has unveiled the pre-production prototype of its very new Tesla Model X crossover.

Revealed at the design studio in California, by the Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk, Tesla Model X crossover is based on the same architecture that underpins the Model S sedan. This 7-passenger CUV is offered as standard in rear-wheel-drive with Dual Motor all-wheel-drive also on the cards as an option for those interested. The car is will be available in two battery pack versions that include a base 60-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack capable of giving 200 miles of range and a 85 kwh pack that will bump up the range to around 285 miles. Industry’s first battery-powered sporty utility vehicle,  Tesla Model X crossover can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

Along with its Falcon Doors all up and high and a sloping roofline, the Tesla Model X as touted by Musk has “more room than a minivan, more style than an SUV and more performance than a sports car.” The interesting features inside include Tesla’s 17-inch Touchscreen, high-res, multi-touch display and a high-res speedometer right in front.

Company confirms that Tesla Model X will start production in late 2013 and will arrive at showrooms early 2014. As for the price, be ready to shell out the money equivalent to that for a similarly equipped Model S. However expect precise details to arrive closer to its production and sales.
