Porsche Preparing Race Track Package for 918 Spyder
According to reports, the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder will have an optional race track package. The package enables the customers to upgrade their model for a more track focused version. The improved version will shed some weight, gain some speed and have a larger price tag. Porsche will achieve the weight reduction by stripping out the interior. Buyers will have the option of skipping exterior paint altogether. The base car is predicted to weigh less than 3750 lbs and the Race Track package will shed 66 lbs. The Race Track product should then weigh 3650-3675 lbs. The weight is impressive considering it features a V8 engine, two electric motors and a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The base model is said have a 570 hp, 4.6-L V8 gasoline engine, a 121 hp electric motor connected to the transmission that drives the rear wheels and a 107 hp front-mounted electric motor that drives the front wheels. The total system output will be 770 hp and 552 lb-ft of torque. The standard production model can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in about three seconds. The top speed is 202 mph.
The stock 918 will carry a price of $845,000 but the pricing of the Race Track package has not yet been revealed. Porsche expects around 20 percent of the customers to take the upgraded package although they must be ready for a premium price. The production of the Porsche 918 Spyder – in both stock and Race Track package will begin on September 18, 2013.
