The upcoming Porsche 911 Cabriolet was spotted undergoing testing on the streets again. A year ago, its test mule was spotted in Germany. However, this time it was found prancing through the streets with little camouflage. The new Porsche 911, dubbed 998 or 991, is expected to be launched in late quarter of 2011 or early 2012.

On the  first look, the notable features of the exclusive model are adjustable rear wings, a slightly longer body, more upright headlights and newly positioned side mirrors. The new headlights built to suit the safety norms will be receiving the LED vision daytime running lights. All performance indicators including top speed, fuel economy and CO2 emissions will be improved with the next-generation.

From the pictures, it looks like Porsche will go for the traditional soft top philosophy for the Cabrio rather than the relatively heavier tin-top. Lot of stress seems to be given on aerodynamic improvements to make the Porsche daringly fast. As a matter of fact, the 998 featured heavy use of lightweight carbon fiber materials to form its bodywork. Adjustable front and rear spoilers with dynamically opening and closing air intakes are also expected.

Wolfgang Dürheimer, Porsche’s chief of research and development said about the new car, “it will be even more competent, even sexier, and even more unique. The design can of course only be evolutionary, but beneath the skin, almost anything is possible“.

Nothing much is known about the engine at this point, but somewhere down the road a 530hp/390kW to 544hp/400kW Turbo model can be expected. All four wheels are expected to be driven either by a six-speed manual or a seven-speed PDK depending on the torque available. The employment of advanced technologies like the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) and the 7-speed PDK transmission could make this Porsche the most expensive in its line-up.
