A Sneak Preview of the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500
Here is some amazing news for all the Mustang lovers out there. The Ford Racing email newsletter confirmed the launch of the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 on 8th of Feb, 2010 during which Derrick Kuzak, FoMoCo VP for global product development will present the SVT product strategy along with Jose Capito, Ford’s director for global performance vehicles.
Besides the aluminium block for the blown 5.4-liter V8, features include a glass roof option and the new SVT Performance Package. The hood stripes are skinnier this time than the ones on the standard GT500, and the body stripe is solid unlike the bisected one on the regular GT500. With upgraded Z-rated tyres, the wheels are obviously different, given the SVT Performance Package exclusivity, 19 x 9.5” in front and 20 x 10” at the back. The 2011 GT500 rear spoiler has a Gurney flap with an upgraded rear axle ratio at 3:73 over the base GT500’s 3:55s. The total firing power of this mean machine is an envious 550-hp even though the torque ratings are not officially out yet.
Definitely, an improvement on the old 2010 Shelby formula, watch out for the 2011 Shelby GT500. It will be available in both Coupe and Convertible models. Capable of handling hard-driving, this car comes equipped with custom shocks and springs and a shift knob. Changes include new Race Red and Ingot Silver Metallic paint colours, a coiled Cobra badge on the grille and front fenders, an aluminium power-dome hood with working heat extractors, redesigned front and rear bumper clips, plus a rear diffuser and standard HID headlamps along with electric power-assist steering which also comes with HD Radio. The only possible loss may be the Shaker 1000 audio system.
