Suzuki Reveals the all new 2011 Suzuki Swift

Suzuki has unveiled the third generation of its popular city car, the 2011 Suzuki Swift today at the firm’s Magyar Suzuki Corporation production facility at Esztergom, in Hungary. The new hatch is lighter and stiffer, 90mm longer and more spacious than the current model.

No significant changes have been made to the exteriors while the interior details still remain hidden as the automaker has not released any images of its new car. But few leaked cell phone pictures reveal that the dashboard and center console design of the car draw their inspiration considerably from the Suzuki Kizashi sedan.

Power for the 2010 Suzuki Swift comes from a new and smaller 1.2-litre petrol engine incorporating Dual VVT (Variable intake and exhaust valve timing) which is capable of producing 93 horsepower and 87lb ft of torque, replacing the outgoing 1.3-liter unit. A manual gearbox comes as standard and an automatic as optional.

The new engine produces just 116g/km on the combined cycle, a 17 percent improvement over the 1.3-liter plant. Fuel consumption for this engine on the combined cycle is 56.5 mpg UK equal to 47.0 mpg US for the manual transmission model.

Also available from the 2011 will be a 75hp 1.3-liter diesel engine that returns 67.3mpg of combined fuel consumption. Suzuki also plans to replace the Swift Sport model, expected to be launched in 2011 as well.

The 2011 Suzuki Swift will go on sales late in summer in Europe with no word about its plans to ship to the North American soil.
